Top View of Gorgeous Patio Design

2020 has been a crazy year in more ways than one. With a global pandemic that forced so many of us to change our day-to-day lives, so has it changed the way we experience outdoor spaces. With a country-wide stay at home order, it was a year of new appreciations, trying new things, and am increased emphasis on being outside.

Now that 2020 is in the books, we want to share with you what we saw to be the best new landscaping trends. With innovative ideas, technologies and fashions, this year was definitely one to remember! Here were some of our favorites:

Multi-seasonal Designs
Last year more than ever, homeowners were looking to get the most out of their outdoor spaces. From adding heaters and pergolas to awnings and fans, more projects were created that are functional all year long.

Edible Gardening
With an influx of free time, 2020 was the perfect time to connect your garden with your kitchen. By growing your own food, fresh, top-quality ingredients were available without even leaving the house.

The Color Blue
The 2020 Pantone Color of the Year, Classic Blue, inspired color schemes both inside and outside of homes. Everything from blue flowers to blue outdoor furniture was the center of attention this year.

Vertical Garden

Vertical Gardening
Plants were being incorporated in all sorts of ways in 2020. Gardening vertically was seen as a perfect way for small homes, condos, and apartments to experience all that greenery has to offer. This creative approach of putting plants upwards instead of outwards softened walls and added so much beauty to every space.

High Quality Outdoor Furniture
As so much time was spent outdoors this year, homeowners showed their willingness to spend a little more money for quality outdoor furniture. With our especially harsh outdoor elements, people looked for furniture that would last.

Repurposing
Quarantine was a time of massive clean outs and many DIY projects. With social media connecting new ideas, repurposing items for your outdoor space was a popular trend and created some fun new pieces.

Outdoor Kitchens
As outdoor gatherings encompassed Summer 2020, outdoor cooking was all the rave. From grills and pizza ovens to fridges and open fires, a place to eat and drink while outside was a popular home addition.

As 2020 has come to an end we at POE would like to say thank you for such a great year and we hope for a better 2021. Though we all faced many challenges, we are thankful that we were all able to get through it together. Let’s keep our attitudes cheerful and our backyard’s beautiful as we move into the new year!
